Who can join Kenya National Police DT SACCO, and how transfers work
Also known as Kenya Police SACCO.
Who can join
Its by-laws list serving and retired National Police Service staff, staff of the National Police Service Commission, the Kenya Defence Forces and disciplined services, the Independent Police Oversight Authority and the SACCO itself, civil servants, employees of corporates in Kenya, Kenyans living abroad, employees of partner organisations and the business community. You must be 18 or over and cannot belong to another SACCO serving a similar purpose. Joining costs a KSh 2,000 entrance fee, at least KSh 500 of shares and monthly deposits. The Board can refuse an application, giving its reasons.
How transfers work
- Shares can only go to another member, so a buyer has to join first.
- The Board must approve the transfer, and it is not valid until it is registered with the SACCO.
- The by-laws say transfers must be in writing and at nominal value (shares are KSh 100 each). Ask the SACCO how this applies to the price you agree.
- The buyer pays the SACCO a transfer fee set by its Board. Ask the SACCO for the current amount. This is not paid to SaccoBid.
- While you remain a member you must keep at least KSh 500 worth of shares. Its delegates meeting sets this figure.
- Transferring all your shares ends your membership.

Common questions
What is the difference between share capital and deposits?
They are not the same thing, and usually only share capital is transferable. Deposits are your savings and normally come back to you when you exit the SACCO — they cannot be sold to someone else. Check which you hold with your SACCO before listing, because it is the most common reason a listing cannot go ahead.
Can I withdraw my share capital?
Usually not while you remain a member. Share capital is your stake in the SACCO, so it normally leaves by being transferred to another member rather than being paid back. Rules differ between SACCOs, so check yours before you list.
Who can buy these shares?
Someone who meets the SACCO's own membership requirements. The SACCO decides who may join and approves every transfer, so check with it before you bid.
How much does it cost to buy?
Nothing to SaccoBid. Buyers pay us nothing at any point — not to browse, not to bid, not to win. The seller pays the entire platform fee. You pay the seller for the shares themselves, in person at the SACCO office, and the SACCO may charge its own membership or transfer fees.
What does a seller pay, and when?
A flat fee set by the band your sale falls into: KSh 500 up to KSh 50,000, KSh 750 to KSh 100,000, KSh 1,000 to KSh 250,000, and KSh 1,500 above that. It is charged once, only after you have chosen a buyer. Listing and verification are free, and if no deal happens you are never charged.
Who do I pay for the shares themselves?
The seller, directly, in person at the SACCO office. Never send money before the SACCO has recorded the transfer in your name. If anyone asks you to send the share price by M-Pesa in advance, stop and message us.
Someone claiming to be SaccoBid asked for my PIN.
That is not us. We never ask for your M-Pesa PIN, and we never ask you to read out or send us a code by call, SMS or WhatsApp. The codes we email you are only ever typed in on saccobid.co.ke. Block them and forward the message to our WhatsApp support so we can warn others.
